Outdoor area at Essex Scout Group to be given makeover

Young people at 1st Coggeshall Scout Group, in Essex, will soon benefit from a makeover of their facilities as National Highways and its partners are set to begin work on delivering a new outdoor fire pit, bushcraft area and new smooth surface for the car park. 

Starting on Monday 4 April, National Highways has teamed up with its Asset Community East supply chain partners to revamp facilities at the 1st Coggeshall Scout Group’s headquarters, which is used by 90 young people belonging to the Scout Group, as well as 50 of the Blackwater East Girl guiding members. 

With help from supply chain partners Eurovia Contracting, Tarmac Construction, Hanson UK, Ground Control, Carnell and Atkins who will provide materials and labour, a number of improvements will be made to the Scout group’s facilities over a two-week period during the Easter holidays, including: 

• Creation of a new outdoor fire circle  
• Installation of a bushcraft and outdoor activities area 
• New footpaths 
• Resurfacing of the car park surface 
• Vegetation clearance and planting 

National Highways Supplier Relations Manager East, Rob Barron, said: “We’re really pleased that working alongside our Asset Community East supply chain partners, we’re able to give a little something back to a local community group. Our partners have once again stepped up by donating their time and resources to delivery this project, which I’m sure will be enjoyed by all in 1st Coggeshall Scout Group.” 

Volunteers from the Scout Group will support the project during construction and learn about environmental practices in engineering.  

Work at Honywood School and the Scout Group will take place over two weeks during the Easter holiday – Monday 4th April to Friday 8 April and Monday 11 April to Thursday 14 April with working hours between 8am and 4pm.
