Overnight improvement scheme begins on A63 near Humber Bridge

Improvements to an important route near the landmark Humber Bridge begin next week.

Improvements to an important route near the landmark Humber Bridge begin next week.

A section of the A63 westbound near Hessle, East Riding of Yorkshire, is undergoing essential resurfacing from Monday (12 December).

National Highways is due to start overnight work on the westbound entry slip road from Priory Way on Monday and aims to complete this by Friday (16 December).

Overnight resurfacing will then begin from Thursday 5 January on the westbound carriageway between Priory Way to Western Interchange, west of Humber Bridge. The work will continue until the week beginning 16 January.

National Highways Programme Delivery Manager Stuart Allanson said:

“Drivers will notice journeys on these stretches of road become smoother once the work is complete.”

Closures and diversions

To carry out this work safely, the westbound A63 carriageway and entry slip is due to close from Priory Way through to Western Interchange overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for five nights from 12 to 16 December.

The same closure will be in place when National Highways returns to complete the work from Thursday 5 January until Wednesday 18 January. During the day, the A63 will be open to traffic in both directions.

A fully signed diversion, which has been agreed in advance with the police and the local authority, will be in place.

• Westbound - motorway traffic will be diverted onto Priory Way, Hessle Road, A1166, Boothferry Road, to Western Interchange and the A63.

• For the business park, rugby ground and skate park off Livingstone Road, entry and exit is via Westfield Lane and Redcliff Road.

Stuart added:

“By carrying out the work overnight we have worked to keep disruption to a minimum; however, we apologise for any delays. We advise people to plan their route and familiarise themselves with diversions before setting off and allow more time to get to their destination.”

Updates will be shared on the National Highways Yorkshire and North East homepage.
This work cannot be carried out in harsh weather. If there are any changes, updates will be shared on the website and social media channels, the @HighwaysYorks Twitter feed and the National Highways: Yorkshire Facebook page.
