Overnight closures on A63 for improvements to pedestrians and cyclists’ journeys

Better journeys on foot and by bike are being created as National Highways is improving a path alongside the A63 in East Yorkshire.

Better journeys on foot and by bike are being created as National Highways is improving a path alongside the A63 in East Yorkshire.

The cycleway and footpath close to the eastbound carriageway near South Hunsley School in Melton, North Ferriby, is being extended, improving the route for students and the community. The improvements are being made between Welton footbridge and Melton footbridge.

Enabling work to prepare the site for the improvements will begin tonight (30 January). The main work is then expected to begin on Monday 6 February and is due to continue until the beginning of May.

Closures and diversions

To carry out this work safely the A63 eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight between Welton and Melton from tonight (30 January) until the beginning of May. To minimise disruption for motorists, this closure will be in place from 8pm until 6am, when traffic is lightest. The closure is needed due to there being no hard shoulder on this section of the A63.

A fully-signed diversion, which has been agreed in advance with the police and the local authority, will be in place from South Cave to Western Interchange. HGV drivers are advised to follow this route whenever possible to avoid restrictions on local roads and noise issues in residential areas.

This work cannot be completed in harsh weather. If there are any changes, updates will be shared on the National Highways Yorkshire and North East website and on social media channels.

Further details about the closure are available on the National Highways Yorkshire and North East website or by following @HighwaysYorks on Twitter.

Updates are also shared on the Facebook – National Highways Yorkshire page.
