National Highways workers dig deep for charity as road scheme opens

Construction workers from National Highways who remodelled a bottleneck junction on the M25 dug deep to help provide gifts for the community in the area, as work on the project comes to an end.
National Highways £50m scheme on the M25 J25 has seen improvements made to the junction that regularly sees 6,300 motorists pass through every day. These upgrades include:
- creation of a dedicated off slip from the M25 clockwise onto the A10 northbound towards Hertfordshire
- increased capacity and redesign of roundabout to improve safety
- widened the A10 southbound approach to the junction
- installed new pedestrian crossing points and improved the subway
As work to transform the junction comes to an end, contractors from Mott Macdonald and the GRAHAM group working on behalf of National Highways on the Enfield roundabout improvements have given up their time and volunteered at the Broxbourne Foodbank warehouse to ‘give back’ to the local community.
They got involved with weighing in over 120 crates of donations, sorting items the food bank had received into order and helping put food parcels together, which will be sent on to the food bank’s pick up points in the area.
The team also dropped off over 75 kgs of food such as biscuits, selection boxes and Christmas puddings, that will all help go towards people in need and provide them with a selection of treats.
National Highways project manager, Indy Grewal, said: “We have been very fortunate that our contractors have been both extremely generous and enthusiastic in carrying out initiatives to support the communities and local people who have been so understanding while this work was carried out.”
Elaine Batten, who helps run the Broxbourne Foodbank alongside a hard working team of volunteers, was on hand to give the volunteers a rundown of how the food bank operates, who they help and what donations they’re currently looking for.
Elaine concluded:” “Every one of the volunteers deserves a gold medal for the commitment and support they have shown to the Broxbourne Foodbank, our community, and me personally. To each of them, I would like to say a massive thank you and to tell them they are my true heroes.”
