We're lifting and completing roadworks for the festive getaway

We will be working round the clock to remove almost 900 miles of roadworks ahead of the Christmas 2022 festive getaway this year.
This means nearly 98 per cent of motorways and major A roads will be roadworks-free in time for those making journeys over the Christmas period.
To help minimise disruption, most roadworks will be removed from England’s motorway and major A-road network from 6am on Tuesday 20 December 2022 until 12.01am on Tuesday 3 January 2023.
Travelling over winter
With much of the country recently experiencing sub-zero temperatures, please take care when driving in poor weather. Remember to give our gritters space to work so they can keep roads safe for you.
If you're travelling over winter and the festive season, follow our vehicle checks advice before you set off.
Our travelling in winter page will help make your journeys as smooth and safe as possible.
Preparing for PCS union strike action
PCS strike action involving a minority of traffic officers and control room operators will start in the north of England on Friday 16 December 2022. It will move to other regions over the following three weeks.
We’re working to ensure that any industrial action won't affect your journeys and are confident that we can manage the impact of the strikes.
