We've found large numbers of dead or dying Ash trees. These are a potential safety risk to people on or near our road network.

We need to remove or make safe ash trees identified as needing urgent action.

We'll put signed diversions in place while we work. Please follow our official diversions, not satnav instructions.

Closures

While we work, we'll need overnight closures at these locations.

23 July to 5 August - A34 southbound Hinksey Hill interchange to Marcham Rd interchange 

Closed overnight (9pm-6am).

Diversion:

  • exit at Hinksey Hill Interchange on to the A423 eastbound
  • join the A4074 at Heyford Hill Roundabout
  • follow the A4074 until Berinsfield Roundabout and then join the A415 (Abingdon Rd)
  • follow the A415 until re-joining the A34 at Marcham Rd roundabout
5 to 6 August - A34 southbound from Marcham Road interchange to Milton Interchange

Closed overnight (9pm-6am).

Diversion:

  • exit at Marcham Rd Interchange and join Marcham Rd (A415)
  • continue on Marcham Rd/Frilford Rd before joining Wantage Rd (A338) SB
  • continue on A338 and then join the A417
  • travel east on the A417 and then join the A4130 NB and then re-join the A34 at Milton Interchange
10 to 14 August - M27 westbound junction 1 to A31 Upper Canterton

Closed overnight (9pm-6am).

Diversion:

  • exit at Cadnam Interchange on to the A31 and then join the A336
  • from the A336, join the A326 and then join the A35
  • continue on the A35, turn left on to Gosport Lane, and then continue on Chapel Lane and then re-join the A35
  • follow the A35 until Iford Brg and then join the A3060
  • follow the A3060 and then join the A338 until re-joining the A31 at Ashley Heath Roundabout
14 August - A31 southbound from Boundary Lane roundabout to Ashley Heath roundabout

Closed overnight (9pm-6am).

Diversion-

  • travel westbound on the A31 and exit on to New Rd (A347)
  • then take Christchurch Road/Parley Lane (B3073) to Spur Road (A338) northbound
  • follow the A338  and re-join the A31 at Ashley Heath roundabout 
20 August - A34 southbound between Peartree interchange and Botley interchange

Closed overnight (9pm-6am).

Diversion-

  • exit A34 at Peartree Roundabout on to Woodstock Road
  • from Woodstock Road, join North Way (A40) and continue on to Eastern By-Pass Road (A4142)
  • re-join A34 at Hinksey Hill Interchange

21 August - M3 southbound junction 3 exit slip

Closed overnight (9pm - 6am)

Diversion-

  • travel southbound on the M3 to junction 4
  • return on the M3 northbound to exit at junction 3

We're installing four new access points in the A1089 central reservation barrier.

This will significantly reduce the need to divert A1089 drivers through local roads in future.

We'll need overnight road closures to complete this work safely.

Closures and Diversions

6 July to 7 August - A1089 northbound (weeknights, 8pm-4am)

Closed between the Asda Roundabout and the A13.

10 August to 4 September - A1089 southbound (weeknights, 8pm-4am)

Closed between the A13 and the Asda Roundabout.

7 to 22 September - A1089 northbound (weeknights, 8pm-4am)

Closed between Tilbury Port and the Marshfoot Interchange, including the western side of the Asda Roundabout.

Access into Thurrock Park Way will be restricted and access out will be managed by traffic marshals.

Speed limits will be lowered through nearby residential areas each night as an additional safety measure.

When the A1089 northbound is closed you'll be diverted by:

  • Windrush Way eastbound
  • Gun Hill
  • Turnpike Lane northbound
  • Linford Road westbound
  • Chadwell Hill southbound
  • Marshfoot Road westbound
  • Old Dock Approach Road northbound
  • Wood View westbound
  • Stanford Road eastbound
  • A13 Orsett Cock Roundabout

A temporary one way system will operate overnight in a clockwise direction on:

  • Gun Hill
  • Turnpike Lane
  • Muckingford Road
  • Blue Anchor Lane
  • Church Road
  • and Coopers Shaw Road

Traffic from Rectory Road should turn right onto Turnpike Lane or Church Road.

When the A1089 southbound is closed you'll be diverted by:

  • A13 Orsett Cock Roundabout
  • Stanford Road westbound
  • Wood View eastbound
  • Old Dock Approach Road southbound
  • Marshfoot Road eastbound
  • Chadwell Hill northbound
  • Linford Road eastbound
  • Turnpike Lane, Gun Hill southbound
  • Windrush Way westbound

A temporary one way system will operate overnight in a counter clockwise direction on:

  • Coopers Shaw Road
  • Church Road
  • Blue Anchor Lane
  • Muckingford Road
  • Turnpike Lane
  • and Gun Hill 

Traffic from Rectory Road should turn left onto Gun Hill or Blue Anchor Lane.

This work isn’t part of the Lower Thames Crossing project, but we will keep the project informed on our progress and coordinate work where necessary.

We've closed the southbound exit slip on the A21 at Vauxhall. The closure is needed following damage to a bridge parapet.

For safety reasons the slip way will remain closed until we carry out repairs.

We'll provide further information on timescales as soon as possible.

  • stay on the A21 southbound until the Longfield junction
  • exit the A21 and re-join northbound

A21 full carriageway from Northbridge Street roundabout to Johns Cross roundabout

Fully closed in both directions overnight (8pm - 6am) on:

A21 northbound from Hastings diversion - 
  • exit at Ebden's Hill / A28 Westfield Lane junction
  • follow A28 through Westfield Lane, Church Lane, Main Road, Brede Bridge, Brede Hill, Oakfield Cottages, King Wood Hill, Northiam Road, Main Street and Station Road
  • continue on A268 via Queen Street, Megrims Hill, Rye Road, High Street and Hawkhurst Road
  • re-join A21 at Flimwell Junction
A21 northbound from closure point (John's Cross roundabout) diversion -
  • join A21 southbound until reaching Westfield Lane and join A28 Westfield Lane
  • continue northbound on the A28 via Westfield Lane/ Church lane/ Main Road/ Brede Bridge/ Brede Hill/ Oakfield Cottages/ King Wood Hill/ Northiam Road/ Main St/Station Road
  • then continue along the A268 Queen Street/ Megrims Hill/ Rye Road/ High street/ Hawkhurst Road
  • turn right onto the A21 at Flimwell Junction where the diversion ends. 
A21 southbound from Elimwell diversion -
  • turn onto A268 at Flimwell Junction
  • follow Hawkhurst Road, High Street, Rye Road, Megrims Hill and Queen Street
  • continue on A28 via Station Road, Main Street, Northiam Road, King Wood Hill, Oakfield Cottages, Brede Hill, Brede Bridge, Main Road and Church Lane to Westfield Lane to the A21
A21 southbound from closure point (Northbridge Street roundabout) diversion -
  • take A21 northbound to Flimwell Junction
  • turn left onto the A268 at Flimwell Junction and continue on Hawkhurst Road, High Street, Rye Road, Megrims Hill, Queen Street
  • then continue along the A28 via Station Road, Main St, Northiam Road, King Wood Hill, Oakfield Cottages, Brede Hill, Brede Bridge, Main Road, Church Lane and Westfield Lane to the A21

These side roads will remain open for access only:

  • Poppinghole Lane
  • Mountfield Court Drive
  • George Hill
  • Redlands Lane

We can provided escorted access for residents and businesses on the A21 between Northbridge Street roundabout and Johns Cross roundabout. If you live on the A21, we encourage you to use side roads to access your property.

Non-residents must follow diversions.

We'll maintain access for emergency services.

We're undertaking replacement of the bridge expansion joints and the installation of a surfacing inlay across the full length of the Bolney Flyover bridge deck.

These works are required because the north expansion joint has failed and no longer complies with current standards.

We'll work overnight to minimise disruption.

Closures and Diversions

3 to 8 August - A23 northbound carriageway (A2300 Hickstead Interchange to Bolney)

Closed overnight (8pm-6am).

Diversion by:

  • exiting the A23 at Hickstead via the A2300
  • follow signed diversion route via local roads
  • re-join the A23 northbound at Bolney

The northbound entry slip road from the A2300 will also be closed during these nights. Access to local businesses and properties will be maintained.

10 – 15 August - A23 southbound carriageway at Bolney

Closed overnight (8pm – 6am).

Diversion by:

  • exiting the A23 via the southbound slip road at Bolney
  • re-join the A23 via the southbound entry slip road at Bolney to continue your journey

Closed overnight (8pm – 6am).

Diversion 

  • continue west on the A27 to Bognor Roundabout (junction with the A259)
  • take the A259 eastbound towards Bognor Regis
  • follow the A259 to the junction with the A29
  • take the A29 northbound via Shripney, Westergate and Fontwell
  • to rejoin the A27 at Fontwell West Roundabout
3–7 August, 10–14 August, 17–21 August – A27 westbound, Fontwell West Roundabout to Boxgrove Roundabout

Closed overnight (8pm – 6am).

Diversion 

  • exit the A27 at Fontwell West Roundabout and take the A29
  • southbound via Fontwell, Westergate and Shripney
  • follow the A259 westbound from Bognor Regis to the A27 at Bognor Roundabout, Chichester
  • follow the A27 back to Boxgrove Roundabout

Closures

We'll close the A303:

  • eastbound from Parkhouse Cross to Thruxton Village
  • westbound from Hundred Acre interchange to Parkhouse Cross

Overnight (9pm - 6am) on:

  • Thursday 13 and Friday 14 August
  • 17 August to 23 August (Monday to Friday only)

The last closure will end 6am Saturday 24 October.

Eastbound diversion - 
  • exit the A303 eastbound at Parkhouse Roundabout
  • from the  slip road, head towards Salisbury Road (A338)
  • turn right onto Salisbury Road (A338)
  • at the roundabout, take the first exit onto the B3084
  • continue straight on the B3084
  • join the A303 by the slip road, following signs for Andover/Thruxton
Westbound diversion
  • exit the A303 westbound - following signs for the A342
  • turn right onto Monxton Road-Hundred Acre Roundabout
  • take the 1st exit onto Weyhill Road (A342)
  • continue on Tidworth Road (A3026)
  • take the first exit onto Ludgershall Road (A3026)
  • turn left onto Pennings Road (A338)
  • at the roundabout take the 2nd exit, Pennings Road (A338)
  • take the fourth exit to re-join the A303

Other traffic management:

  • 24/7 narrow lanes
  • 50mph speed limit through works
  • layby closures

15 June to 30 October - A34 northbound from Marcham Interchange to Lodge Hill junction

Closed overnight (9pm - 6am) up to seven nights a week.

There will also be daytime narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit northbound.

Diversion by Marcham Road, Colwell Drive, Copenhagen Drive, Dunmore Road and A4183.

We've had to put some temporary metal barriers and restrictions in place on the London-bound carriageway of the M2 Medway Bridge.

They will need to remain in place until we carry out permanent repairs to a damaged parapet barrier. This is expected to take up to six weeks because of the need to order a specialist part.  

Three lanes remain open, but for safety reasons the following restrictions are currently in place London-bound only:

  • lane closure
  • hard shoulder closure
  • 50mph speed limit
  • junction 2 exit slip closure 

We're working to re-open the junction 2 exit slip as soon as possible. 

If you need to exit at junction 2, follow this diversion route:

  • leave the M2 at junction 3 and join the A229
  • travel southbound to the M20, joining at junction 6
  • leave the M20 at junction 4
  • join the A228 northbound back to junction 2 of the M2

  • continue on the M2 to Junction 4
  • use the roundabout to return westbound to junction 3
Monday 24 to Thursday 27 August - M2 Junction 3 eastbound entry slip road and two lanes on eastbound carriageway

Closed overnight (8pm – 6am).

Diversion-

  • continue on the M2 to Junction 4
  • use the roundabout to return westbound to junction 3

From 20 July – Bull Road (between Ryarsh Road junction and the A228 roundabout)

Closed 24/7 for up to four weeks. The M20 will not be affected.

Diversion 

Follow the signed diversion via:

  • Ryarsh Road
  • Birling Road
  • The Street, Roughetts Road
  • A20 London Road
  • Ashton Way
  • A228

The diversion is approximately 6 km and adds around 10 minutes to journey times.
