Volunteering

Volunteering plays a pivotal role in how we achieve and deliver on our social value plan. Whether it's through our own employees or supply chain, we want to give back to the communities which are impacted by our works or lend a helping hand to organisations already in place to provide vital services.

Volunteering

We work closely with our supply chain to identify volunteering opportunities across the country and our employees are given three days paid leave each year to take part in volunteering activity.

In 2025, our employees spent a record-breaking 9,594 volunteering hours – up from 6,915 in the previous year.

The Great British Spring Clean is an annual event that relies heavily on volunteering with many members of staff and other external volunteers taking part in a concentrated effort to remove litter from our network. We use this as an opportunity to remind our customers of their responsibilities to make sure they take their rubbish home with them while also targeting areas on our motorways and A-roads to remove litter.

We're proud to dedicate our time to worthwhile causes and we often provide support and help to established initiatives that are already playing a key role in helping individuals and communities.

An example of this was when we teamed up with volunteers from supplier GRAHAM and spent a week carrying out transformative work at the St Neots Miniature Railway that would have taken 18 months had we not helped.

Below is a video showing the result of our efforts and how those who run the miniature railway can keep adding joy to the lives of those who visit.
