M6 - Road traffic collision
The M6 in Greater Manchester is closed northbound between J23 (Newton Le Willows) and J24 (Ashton In Makerfield) following a serious collision which occurred just prior to 22:00 last night (18.10.26).
Emergency services including Merseyside Police and Mersey Fire have been in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene to assist with traffic management.
Police collision investigation works have been ongoing throughout the night, under a full closure of the road in both directions. The southbound carriageway re-opened at approximately 07:30 this morning.
As a result of one of the vehicles involved in the collision catching fire, damage has been sustained to the road surface which now requires resurfacing. Emergency works will be taking place throughout the morning once the vehicle has been recovered.
There is not currently an estimated time for the road re-opening.
