Accessibility information to help disabled motorists plan their journey on our roads

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower for your vehicle

Display a Hidden Disabilities Sunflower on your vehicle if you feel that you may need additional support if you break down or need assistance on a motorway or major A-road in England.

The Sunflower will indicate to roadside and emergency services that you or someone in your vehicle has an impairment which may not be visible.

The Sunflower for your vehicle is free, and can be ordered directly from the Hidden Disabilities Store.

Access guides for motorway services

We’ve partnered with AccessAble, a leading provider of venue accessibility information, to develop detailed access guides for all motorway services in England.

Each access guide covers all aspects of accessibility, from parking and toilets, to physical layout, lighting levels and staff training.

Guides are available from the AccessAble website or via the free AccessAble app.

Contacting us if you’re Deaf

If you’re a British Sign Language user, you can use the online interpreting service, SignLive to contact us.

SignLive is a free service that will connect you to a qualified BSL interpreter. The interpreter will connect you with us, and relay the conversation between you and an advisor at our customer contact centre.

Find out more on our video - Contacting National Highways if you're Deaf.

Access this service through the SignLive website or via the SignLive app.

Emergency texting service

If you need assistance on our roads and are unable to use an emergency roadside telephone due to a speech or hearing impairment, you can contact us via text on 0738 028 3600 for roadside assistance.

Details for using this text service can also be found on the emergency roadside telephones across our network
