EMERGE Recycling is a social enterprise founded on the principles of sustainable resource management, social value and quality service. We are a licensed waste carrier and our specialist treatment infrastructure means that we are able to cater to customers with greater waste management needs, including all business waste, confidential shredding, food waste and waste electrical equipment. We endeavour to manage waste in the most resource efficient way possible and to promote our ethos of the real 3Rs: ‘Reduce, Re-use, Recycle’.
We have a proud history and have been operating in East Manchester since we started as a community business in 1996. Since then, the EMERGE Family has grown and now comprises of EMERGE Recycling and EMERGE 3Rs as two separate legal entities operating from our site on New Smithfield Market. EMERGE 3Rs is an environmental charity which promotes the idea and practice of resource conservation, and also operates FareShare Greater Manchester, which helps to alleviate food waste and fight food poverty. It also runs the Give & Gain Volunteering and Employability Programme. The two entities work collaboratively, with EMERGE Recycling utilising some its profits to achieve their shared vision. So, in becoming our customer you will also be helping people in need, as well as tackling climate change!
Over the past 24 years we have supplied waste management services to a wide variety of customers, including businesses, schools and universities, charities and social enterprises, the NHS and local government. The Tree Council
The Tree Council is a national charity, working in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, bringing everyone to work together for trees and hedgerows. For more than 50 years, we have been inspiring and empowering organisations, government, communities and individuals with the knowledge and tools to create positive, lasting change at a national and local level.
We manage award-winning community planting programmes for a variety of government agencies and other organisations and won the 2024 Rail Business Award for Sustainability & Environmental Excellence for our work in this area, in partnership with Network Rail.
We coordinate major projects and practical research programmes with Defra, Natural England, Forest Research and the Forestry Commission on topics such as Local Tree Strategies, Ash Dieback, Tree Survival and Protection of Heritage Trees. These projects help us share knowledge and link with different activity and research groups.
We work closely with Unitary, City and Parish Councils and we chair or serve on more than a dozen, national, high-level, policy, practice and advisory boards to governments in the UK nations on the topics of tree health, tree safety, habitats, biodiversity and climate change. This keeps us well-informed on our operating environment and gives insight into the latest policy and research.
We raise awareness of the value of the natural world through our annual public campaigns such as National Tree Week and National Hedgerow Week, working with our network of thousands of volunteer Tree Wardens and the 3,000+ schools engaged in our National Schools Programme.

Trinity Fencing CIC
Trinity Fencing CIC was set up in 2014 and our project commenced 2015. As a community interest company, we provide Commercial and Residential, Fencing, Landscaping and Tree-Surgery, to the highest level, but as we also serve the community by supporting young ex-offenders, those at risk of offending, those with learning challenges, long term unemployed, homeless, with poor mental health and those with low skills. The 18-24 NEET generation are our primary beneficiaries.
We do this through our 8-week paid Training and Work Placement Program called ‘Challenge Program’; which involves mentoring, training, certifying and qualifying young people into the Construction workforce.

Wiseup Networks
Wiseup Networks is a social enterprise that partners with companies to provide mentoring and work experience opportunities for 16–18-year-olds.
On Wiseup’s Pathfinder Programme, Wiseup provides training to employees of a partner company to upskill them as mentors for local students.
A 1-2-1 mentoring programme is then facilitated by Wiseup, consisting of at least 5 sessions. After session 2, the students visit the employer’s place of work for a work experience opportunity. Following which, the mentoring sessions resume.
Wiseup’s programmes are targeted at students without the personal and family connections to gain an advantage in their early career.
