Abnormal load movements on M5 northbound from junction 18 (from Avonmouth docks) to junction 2 (Oldbury, for Walsall)
Starting on 30 September, a series of abnormal load movements will take place on the M5.
Specialist transport company Allelys is moving three large silos, each weighing up to 25 tonnes.
Avon and Somerset, Gloucestershire and the West Midlands police forces will escort the loads as they pass through the regions.
There will be three separate movements in total, each taking two days to complete.
- day one - the load will travel between M5 junction 18 and junction 8
- day two - the load will travel between M5 junction 8 and M5 junction 2

The three movements will take place on these dates:
- Wednesday 30 September and Friday 2 October
- Thursday 8 October and Friday 9 October
- Sunday 11 October and Monday 12 October
The loads will depart from Avonmouth at:
- 6pm Wednesday 30 September
- 10am Thursday 8 October
- 8.30am Sunday 11 October
West Midlands Police will escort the load between M5 junction 8 and M5 Junction 2 from 4am on:
- Friday 2 October
- Friday 9 October
- Monday 12 October
Northbound journeys on the M5 will be directly affected. Only one lane will be available northbound for vehicles overtaking.
Due to the height of the load, the vehicles will travel between 20 and 25mph.
They will need to stop and lower their loads at certain structures along the route. When this is required, northbound traffic will be held.
As a result, we expect significant delays, estimated between 60 and 90 minutes.
The vehicles are scheduled to pull over at appropriate locations to allow the build up of traffic to pass.
