M1 - Road traffic collision
The M1 is closed southbound between Junction 11A (Chalton) and Junction 11 (Luton) following a multi-vehicle collision.
The incident occurred shortly before 8:45pm yesterday evening.
One of the HGVs involved overturned and came to rest on its side. The collision also resulted in significant damage to the nearside safety barrier and boundary fencing, along with a substantial oil spillage affecting most lanes.
Recovery of all vehicles has now been completed, and emergency resurfacing works are underway. The carriageway remains closed while repairs are carried out, after which barrier repairs and final clear-up operations will take place.
