A27 Falmer drainage repairs and maintenance
We’re carrying out repairs and maintenance to the drainage on the A27 Falmer. These improvements are essential for the safety of road users.
We’re carrying out repairs and maintenance to the drainage on the A27 Falmer and A270 Lewes Road.
We’ll carry out the work in stages and, for the everyone’s safety, there will be temporary traffic management in place around the A27 junctions with the A270 and B2123 at Falmer while we complete the work.
These improvements are essential for the safety of road users. Our drainage systems are there to remove water, for example rain, from the road efficiently and effectively. To continue to do this, the systems sometimes need to be cleared of any debris that has run off the roads or have any damage repaired.
- Tuesday 3 May to Friday 13 May 2022 - 8pm to 6am, Monday to Friday only
We’ll be closing the westbound entry slip and a lane on the westbound A27 at the junction with the B2123 (Falmer).
Please follow signed diversion to join the A27 westbound during the slip road closure: use the bridge to go over the A27 and join eastbound, travel to the next junction (Ashcombe / Kingston roundabout) where you can join the A27 westbound.
During the closure, Falmer Station bus stop on the westbound carriageway will be closed. Buses will be running via Stony Mere Way and University Way, please use the subway under the A27 to access the station and alternative bus stops on the university campus.
For residents living by the train station or in Stanmer Court, and Southern Water, escorted access will be provided to your property. Please make your way to the layby on Knights Gate Road opposite Mill Street, adjacent to the Freeman Centre where you will be met to be escorted to your property. When leaving the properties by the station, please make your way to the end of Station Approach where an escort will be provided.
Monday 16 May to Friday 27 May 2022 – 8pm to 6am, Monday to Friday only
We’ll be closing a lane on both the westbound A27 and entry slip at the junction with the B2123 (Falmer). A lane will remain open on the carriageway and slip road during our work.
Access will be maintained to Falmer Station, bus stops and properties during this work.
If we continue to find more repairs are needed, meaning we’re are unable to finish our work as planned on the dates above, there will be additional weeknight closures to get the work completed. Keep an eye on our Twitter and this webpage, where we’ll post updates as our work progresses, and provide details of any changes or additional closures.
