Lower Thames Crossing - Latest news - Community impacts consultation closed

Our community impacts consultation has now closed (on 8 September 2021 at 23:59).

The eight-week consultation gave you the opportunity to have your say on our plans to build and operate the Lower Thames Crossing and how we will mitigate its impact.  We also gave information on changes to the project since the design refinement consultation in 2020 and how responses received at previous consultations have informed the development of the project.

The community impacts consultation at a glance:

  • Over 2,700 responses (at initial count)
  • Almost 2,500 visitors to our 18 events
  • Over 95,000 visits to our dedicated consultation website
  • 274 registrations for our six tailored webinars
  • Almost 580,000 consultation leaflets and post cards distributed to properties within 5km of the route
  • Eight days of call back sessions to answer specific questions
  • Over 400 consultation packs delivered free of charge
  • Almost one million emails sent out to advertise the consultation
  • Advertisements in local newspapers and online
End of consultation stats

At the initial count, over 2,700 people have responded to the consultation. Almost 90% responded online, with over 95,000 visits to our dedicated consultation website.

18 events and six webinars were held over the eight week period, with thousands of attendees coming to discuss the proposed Lower Thames Crossing with a range of technical experts.

Matt Palmer, Executive Director for the Lower Thames Crossing, said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for taking the time to learn more about our plans and giving us your feedback.  The design for the Lower Thames Crossing, and our plans for how we will build and run it, have been shaped by you, and your responses will help us reduce the impact and maximise the benefits of this transformative project."

Now the consultation has closed, we are carefully analysing the responses. These will help us further develop our application for a Development Consent Order.

All the consultation documents, fly through videos and recordings of our webinars, will remain on our dedicated consultation website. We will continue to accept responses that may have been delayed due to postage.
