Step 4: Construction and delivery
On completion of Step 3 you'll have your approved design in place, at which point the DNO can proceed to construction and delivery of the electrical upgrade, and you can plan for charging works on site. The graphic summarises this process and the key things for you to consider during delivery.
Planning
- Site preparation planning
Access agreements and operational licences. - Grid connection detailed design
DNO/independent DNO undertakes detailed engineering designs, considering risks, mitigations and key milestones. - Cybersecurity assessment and payment considerations
- Emergency response planning
- Submission of formal grid connection application
- Connection offer review and understand programme implications
Capacity, complexity, approvals.

Delivery
- Site works and enabling works
Prepare the site so construction and installation can proceed safely, efficiently and without avoidable rework. - Civil and electrical installation on site
Deliver any permanent civil infrastructure and electrical assets safely and to specification, enabling installation, testing and energisation. - Electrical upgrade works (where required)
Your DNO or iDNO will deliver the works to upgrade the connection once ordered. - Charger installation and reconfiguration
Install new EV chargers while maintaining site operations, safety and compliance. - Energisation and system integration
- Testing and commissioning
