This will include installing new road studs. Once complete, drivers will benefit from a safer, smoother, and better-defined road surface.

    • Monday 20 May to Thursday 23 May 2024

No work will be carried out on Monday 6 May 2024 (early May Bank Holiday).

    Closures and diversions

To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the M11 southbound between junctions 8 and 6 and divert traffic.

Southbound traffic will exit the M11 at junction 8 (Birchanger Green) and travel west on the A120 (Bishop’s Stortford Bypass) to Standon, then take the A10 towards the M25 (Waltham Cross). Join the M25 at junction 25 (Waltham Cross) and continue until junction 27 (Theydon) before rejoining the M11 at junction 6.

Project information

Overview

Our works on M11 Junction 8 will replace waterproofing material that has reached its end of life, and is no longer protecting the concrete structure of the bridge, these are essential works to ensure the life-span of the bridges at this junction.

We are also carrying out essential resurfacing, road marking and drainage renewal between junction 7 and junction 10. This will keep the road in a safe and serviceable condition.

Essex Highways are carrying out works to increase capacity and help meet future network demand on junction 8 of the M11, by widening the A120 signalised junction. These works are separate to the ones we are carrying out.

You can find more information about these works on the Essex County Council M11 junction 8 improvement scheme webpage. You can also contact Essex County Council via email at m11J8@essexhighways.org.
