You can more details about the maintenance schemes taking place in the East Midlands below:

We’ll be carrying out structural maintenance work to Spital Road Bridge (also known as A1 Blyth Flyover) from the 26 June 2021 until 3 September 2021.

The work will include concrete repairs and installing cathodic protection installation; which is a technique used to protect metallic structures.

What is happening and when?

A1 Blyth Flyover on Spital Road will be closed completely from 28 June 2021 until the work is complete, which will be in early September. Work on the bridge will take place during the day.

We will also be closing the A1, one carriageway at a time, beneath the bridge from 26 June 2021, while work is carried out overnight.

Overnight works will take place Monday to Friday, 8pm to 6am. Outside of these hours the A1 and A1(M) remain open as normal.

  • A1 northbound will be closed overnight from 26 July 2021 for 10 nights
  • A1 southbound will be closed overnight from 09 August 2021 for 11 nights

We’d encourage drivers to stick to speed limits and follow appropriate signage to ensure the safety of those working on site and fellow road users.

We will do our very best to complete the work as quickly as possible, keeping disturbances and noise to a minimum.

Diversion Routes

Clearly signed diversion routes, agreed with the Local Authority, will be in place during any closures and we’d advise all motorists to stick to them as they have been chosen with both suitability and safety in mind.

Diversion route for traffic using A1 northbound:

At A57 Worksop junction head west towards Worksop and follow the A57 until M1 junction 31. Join M1 northbound and exit at junction 32 onto M18 northbound. Follow M18 until junction 2 (A1(M) junction 35) where diversion ends.

Diversion route for traffic using A1(M) southbound:

At junction 35 exit onto M18 southbound (junction 2) heading towards M1. M18 ends, follow signs for M1 (junction 32) heading The South / Nottingham. Exit M1 at junction 31 and join A57 eastbound towards Worksop. Follow A57 eastbound until junction with A1 (Apleyhead Interchange) where diversion ends.

Local Community Diversion:

Please note: Traffic will not be able to cross the A1 on Spital Road bridge. Instead travel through Blyth on High Street, onto B6045 Bawtry Road and join A1 southbound at Blyth.

PLEASE NOTE: This route is not suitable for all A1/A1(M) traffic due to restrictions within the village.

Please note that all our planned roadworks may be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

For up to date details of closures please check our travel updates page.
