    Remedial works

Following the opening of the improvement works for the M20 junction 10a scheme, we are currently undertaking remedial works throughout the project. This includes replacing damaged kerbs and signs, adjusting manhole cover levels and refreshing white lines.

These works will require lane closures on the A2070 to protect the workforce and the works being undertaken. These will take effect from Monday 17 August from 8.00pm until 6.00am each evening until the morning of Sunday 30 August.

Junction 10 roundabout safety work under way

With the coast-facing junction 10 slip roads closed and following the completion of filling over the redundant slip roads, amendments to the existing kerb lines and islands on the existing junction 10 roundabout are now necessary to ensure the permanent layout of the junction 10 roundabout is operationally safe. These works will require lane closures on junction 10 to protect the workforce and the works being undertaken. These will be installed overnight from 9pm on Saturday 1 August 2020 and it is anticipated that they will be lifted at 6am on Friday 14 August 2020.

During the day, the roundabout will be restricted to two open lanes and from overnight between 9pm and 6am this will be further decreased to one open lane to provide sufficient working space to carry out the works. The night time closures will be used only when they are needed. Additional signs will be installed notifying road users of the works and the potential for delay. These will advise road users to use alternative routes (junction 10a).

White lining has also been renewed from the week commencing Monday 20 July, and there will be some localised traffic management to safely carry out these works.

Seeding and tree planting will take place later this year in autumn and winter.

Main carriageway returns to national speed limit

The M20 mainline carriageway has returned to the national speed limit, with traffic management still present on one lane of the offslip road to the junction. This is for the safety of our workforce and access to the embankment.

Church Road footbridge and all connections around the junction are due to be open by early autumn.

Traffic management is also present during the day on the A2070 for access for remaining works on balancing ponds and remaining landowner accommodation works.

    Junction 10a becomes fully operational

The junction 10 London-facing slip roads opened from the evening of 19 December 2019, making the new junction 10a fully operational. Please view our letter to stakeholders for more information.

Project information

The M20 is an international route and is used by large volumes of heavy goods and holiday traffic. Long distance traffic from the M20, A20 and A2070 (south of Ashford) conflicts with local traffic from Hythe Road and Kennington Road. We identified the scheme as essential to the future development of South Ashford.

The junction 10 London-facing slip roads opened in December 2019, making the new junction 10a fully operational. A new junction and link road scheme are being constructed to help reduce congestion and accommodate the planned developments in the area.
