Traffic and environmental surveys under way

We are currently conducting a range of surveys to give us information about traffic volumes and the local environment. This information will help us explore different design options that would meet the aims we have for the scheme. We are beginning discussions with local authorities and technical stakeholders so we can take into account their views.

Once we’ve worked up viable options, we’ll tell you about them and ask for your opinion.

Project information

We propose to introduce CCTV cameras and driver information systems at several locations along the A34 between the M4 and the M40. We will also be installing “vehicle detection loops”. These are loops in the road that use radar technology to detect when traffic is building or slowing down. They then activate electronic message signs accordingly.

This area suffers from congestion and the scheme is needed to help us ease this, as well as to manage incidents more effectively. The aims of this scheme are to ease congestion, improve safety and improve incident management.
