    Project update

The improvement work at Hooley has been delayed because we are considering feedback from local residents following our public consultation.

The final details of the scheme are still being decided and we will provide further details of the proposed work and timescale on this project page as soon as we have more information. Local residents will be kept informed of progress.

Project information

Overview

Proposed improvements include a reduction in the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph through the residential area and an upgrade of the existing traffic signal timings through the crossroads of the A23 with Netherne Drive and Star Lane.

A new shared footway/cycleway along the A23 will be created, along with widening the A23 northbound to two lanes from Church Lane to Netherne Drive and southbound, again to two lanes, from Netherne Drive to the Esso garage.

The A23 Brighton Road through Hooley is a strategic route between Brighton and London, and is a key route for motorists travelling to and from Gatwick Airport. The proposed scheme will ease congestion, improve safety and provide better links for pedestrians and cyclists.
