    Options consultation now open

We're looking at a range of options to upgrade Hopgrove Junction and dual the carriageway of the A64 from Hopgrove Junction to Barton-le-Willows.

We're keen to hear your views and want to understand how the proposed options impact road users and the local community.

The consultation opened on 25 July 2022 and closes at 11:59pm on 5th September 2022.

It's important we receive your input before then as responses received after the consultation closes may not be considered. Visit our A64 Hopgrove options consultation and let us know what you think.

    Environmental surveys completed

We contacted landowners to arrange access to the land in and around the route of the A64 and Hopgrove Junction in order to undertake environmental surveys. These non-intrusive surveys were completed during September and October 2021 to gain a greater understanding of the environment along the scheme corridor including aspects such as biodiversity, the water environment, cultural heritage features and the wider landscape. The information gathered during these surveys will be used to inform the layout and design for any improvements to the route and to assess and mitigate any potential environmental impacts resulting from the scheme options.

    Study completed

We completed a feasibility study to establish the case for the junction improvement. The study also sought to confirm the problems and issues within the area of the junction and to consider the options which could address them.

Project information

We’re developing plans to improve the A64 around the Hopgrove junction to Barton-le-Willows, to tackle problems with the current route and to make sure it’s fit for the future.

This scheme is one of over 30 that we’re considering around the country, as part of a steady and flexible pipeline of schemes. These pipeline schemes were announced in our 2020-25 Delivery Plan. We’ll be considering these for potential construction beyond 2025, but currently there’s no commitment from government to develop this scheme beyond the current stage. To find out more about our pipeline of possible future schemes please visit our pipeline schemes webpage.

Through this scheme we aim to bring significant benefits to Yorkshire and the UK. We are developing plans to improve the A64 Hopgrove junction and dualling between Hopgrove and Barton-le-Willows. This will help to cut congestion along the A64 now, and as the roads become busier in the future, which will:

  • Make life easier for businesses, commuters and local traffic – making quicker, smoother journeys for jobs and leisure.
  • Support a growing economy and foster local regeneration.

It’ll also improve safety – reducing vehicle accidents and collisions, and the delays these can cause.

We’ll make sure that we minimise the impact of our scheme on people, plants, animals and other natural assets.
