This includes installation of our main site compound at Ockham, overnight temporary CCTV installation, Elm Lane improvements and the first phase of the gas main diversion at Ockham interchange.
We’ll also be carrying out surveys for site investigation and archaeology.

August 2022 We’ll start diverting existing utility services including:
BT cables at the Painshill junction, this will take place overnight
Sky and Virgin cables diversion along the Old Byfleet Road
Affinity Water pipes
UKPN cables
Bat boxes will be installed, and additional small temporary site compounds set up.

We’ll be removing vegetation around the scheme, prior to the bird nesting season.
Preparation work will also start for utilities diversions on the Seven Hills Road junction.
Start building the new Elm Lane.
September 2022 – Start of main construction
This will include the installation of traffic management in the central reservation of the A3 and M25, as well as on slip roads at junction 10.
There will be some night closures to install narrow lanes and speed will be reduced to 50 mph.
The works in central reservation will include removal of light columns, construction of bridges’ central piers, drainage repairs and carriageway widening.
Start building the new Elm Lane.

October 2022 Piling work for the central bridge piers will begin within the central reservation.
Preparatory work will start on the utility diversions at Wisley and Cockcrow for the pedestrian, cyclist, and horse rider routes.

Winter 2022 The new upgraded section of Elm Lane opens.

January 2023 Our traffic management on A3 will move from central reservation to the northbound verge area.
Piling work will begin for the Wisley Lane bridge supports and the Stratford Brook underbridge, and we’ll start on our improvements to the Ockham Roundabout.

February 2023 Traffic management will be installed on the A245 westbound.

March 2023 Completion of work within the central reservation on the M25, and we’ll be moving the traffic management to the verges to start work on the junction 10 bridge foundations and supports.

April/May 2023 The diversion of the gas main between Ockham and the M25 will be completed.
Work will start on the Stratford Brook underbridge and on the deck for the Wisley Lane bridge.
May 2023 Construction will start on the supports and links to the Clermont bridge.

Autumn 2023 The new Wisley Lane and bridge from Ockham Roundabout to RHS Gardens Wisley will open.
A contraflow be set up on the A3 southbound from Ockham to junction 10.

Winter 2023/24 We’ll open the new left turn lanes on junction 10 and move our traffic management to the offside lane.

January 2024 The gas main diversion between junction 10 and Painshill junction will complete, and we’ll start widening the A3 northbound.

Spring 2024 The new junction 10 bridges will open, and we’ll start to remove the old ones.
Works at A245 will be completed.

May 2024 Our work on A3 from the Ockham roundabout to M25 will complete, and we’ll start the installation of technology improvements such as gantrys, cameras and interactive signs.

Summer 2024 The new green bridge at Cockcrow will open, reconnecting the heathland habitats and providing improved links for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.
We’ll move the A3 contraflow to the southbound between junction 10 and Painshill.

October 2024 All utility diversions complete.

Winter 2024/25 We’ll be laying the new road surface and installing signage throughout the project.
