A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon - finishing works

Project information

A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon scheme is now complete
The £1.5 billion A14 upgrade was completed in June 2022, when the last in a series of new link roads in Huntingdon opened to traffic.
Completion of the final road sees the end to over five and half years of major infrastructure work that has included:
  • Building a brand new 12-mile bypass
  • Upgrades to 21-miles of existing carriageway
  • A new road for local communities, the A1307, which runs parallel to the new A14 between Cambridge and Godmanchester
  • Replanting twice as many trees and shrubs as were removed, building over a square mile of new wildlife habitats and creating 24 wildlife tunnels under the road
  • Funding 55 local community-led projects through a dedicated £450,000 A14 Community Fund
  • Donating more than £100,000 to local charities since work began, including through fundraising as part of the award-winning Great Ouse Challenge race in October 2019
  • Archaeological work unearthed woolly mammoth tusks and woolly rhino skulls, only the second gold coin of a Roman emperor to be found in the country, and the earliest evidence of beer brewing in Britain, dating back to 400 BC
