We're lifting more than 1,400 miles of roadworks this Easter Bank Holiday to help motorists enjoy smoother journeys

More than 98 per cent of England’s motorway and major A road network will be free from roadworks over the holiday period.
We'll remove roadworks by 6am on Thursday 6 April. We won't put them back until after the Easter break on Tuesday 11 April.
Check your vehicle before you travel
Many of you may be taking the opportunity take a break over Easter.
If you're travelling long-distance for the first time in a while, take time to makes sure your vehicle's roadworthy.
Before you set off, follow our simple vehicle checks.
Don't linger next to an HGV
Remember to leave plenty of space when overtaking HGVs. People can underestimate the limitations HGV drivers face in seeing passing vehicles.
According to a recent survey, more than a third of motorists are unaware of HGV blind spots.
Although most people said they take extra care overtaking HGVs, 36 per cent did not know how many blind spots a HGV has.
There are three simple ways you can improve your safety when driving around HGVs and other large vehicles.
- stay visible - know the limited zones of visibility around HGVs
- overtake with care
- don't tailgate
Travelling to Kent ports and Eurotunnel
The Port of Dover and Eurotunnel are expected to be busy throughout Easter.
If you're heading to France using the Kent ports, plan ahead. Check conditions and leave extra time for your journey.
