A31 - Emergency re-surfacing operation
The A31 westbound is currently closed between the B3073 at Little Canford and the A349 at Merley for emergency resurfacing following a collision involving three vehicles.
Dorset Police and Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene. One vehicle caught fire, while an oil spillage caused damage to the carriageway.
National Highways’ area team is now carrying out emergency resurfacing works to repair the road.
The westbound carriageway will remain closed overnight and is expected to reopen at approximately 06:00 on Thursday 10 September.
Diversion Route
Road users travelling westbound are advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol on road signs:
- Leave the A31 westbound at the Canford Bottom roundabout and take the 2nd exit onto the B3073 Ham Lane.
- Follow for approx. 1.5 miles to the roundabout with A348 Ringwood Road and take the 2nd exit onto the A348 heading south.
- Continue on the A348 to the Bear Cross roundabout and take the 3rd exit to join the A341 Magna Road.
- Proceed on the A341 to the signalised T Junction with the A349 and turn right onto the A349 Gravel Hill.
- Follow to the next roundabout and take the 1st exit to continue on the A349.
- Continue to the Merley roundabout and use the 2nd exit to rejoin the A31 westbound and continue your journey.
