    A1 North Yorkshire to Newcastle upon Tyne improvements

    We’re carrying out a series of improvements along the A1 in the North East during 2022/23 and are currently progressing with or planning this work.

    Road works, operatives, machinery

    This includes:

    • A1(M) junction 57 to junction 58 - northbound and southbound resurfacing - Spring 2022
    • A1(M) junction 56 to 63 - line painting (Phase 2 junction 58 to 59) - Summer 2022
    • A1(M) junction 56 to 57 - line painting (Phase 3) - Summer 2022
    • A1 CCTV safety camera renewal - Summer 2022
    • A1(M) junction 50 - roundabout drainage repairs - Summer 2022
    • A1 Ouse Burn subway lighting - Summer/Autumn 2022
    • A1 Gateshead Bypass - 50mph signs - Autumn 2022
    • A1(M) junction 52 to 53 - northbound resurfacing (Oak Grange) - Autumn/Winter 2022
    • A1(M) junction 62 to  junction 61 - southbound climbing lane – drainage works - Autumn/ Winter 2022
    • A1 Dunston LED lighting upgrade - Winter 2022
    • A1(M) junction 56 to 58 - safety barrier renewal - Winter 2022/23
